I hope this is only temporary...

Junior: "Where going Mama?"

Me: "The store."

Junior: "Why?"

Me: "To buy undershirts, socks and underwear for Daddy."

Junior: *silence*

Me: "Do you want to buy big boy underwear for you so you don't have to wear diapers anymore?"

Junior: "Yes."

Me: "Ok, so you will not wear diapers anymore and you will wear big boy underwear like Daddy?"

Junior: "Yes."

Me: "Ok, what kind do you want to buy?"

Junior: "Purple!"

I wonder if big boy underwear really comes in purple! Let's hope not!

Summer's here

Well, it has been here for a while now and we have been to the pool on a few occasions thus far...

Gaga's FIRST time in the pool

Swimming at Great Grandma's with Nana, Mommy and Junior

This girl had "swimmer's reflex"...her toes hit the water and she wildly started kicking

Junior finally got accustomed to the water again this summer and is jumping off the sides and going under water without a care in the world. He was timid the first few times we went swimming this summer and reminded me every time I wanted to bring him in the water that he did not want to go under water or get water up his nose! That's all a thing of the past now!

Celebrating after jumping off the side and going under water!

Father's Day weekend

My sister, Aunt K, came in town for Father's day weekend. She accompanied us to a minor league baseball game the first night she came in. The next day we met up with Unckie J and Aunt A at a local swimming park and then headed to my parents for Father's day celebration. On Father's day we made it to Daddy's side of the family to celebrate F-Day and also a few birthdays.

6 month check up and baseball class

We were quite busy yesterday to say the least.

It started at 8:30am for Gaga's 6 month check up including measurements, questions for the doctor and lastly the shots. Gaga did so well with her shots that by the time I was placing my hands underneath her armpits to raise her up off the table, she had finished crying. What a trooper! They did have a few lasting affects on her though. She was cranky and fussy all day today and both legs have a big knot at the injection site and are red and swollen about the size of a half dollar. Poor baby. :( I guess it could have been worse...one shot she received was a new 3-in-1 shot. It could have been two more pokes a few months ago!

Right after the doctor we rushed over to take Junior to a "trial" baseball class. One of my good friends told me about this class (her boys are actually in the soccer class) when I voiced concerns that there might not be anything for Junior to do this summer since all I could find were athletic activities for 3 year olds. This baseball class actually starts with 2 year olds. I was excited at the opportunity to put Junior in an activity that would most certainly please his baseball fanatic Daddy (played up through high school and was an undefeated pitcher his senior year). Not only would we get him started early, but it would be great exercise and maybe work a little on his social skills.

We were there like I said for a free "trial"...no obligation, because believe me, I was worried he would not go through it without having a melt down from being so shy. The "coach" (it's just a class where they teach skills, they are not on a team) introduced himself and told us, as parents we would be involved the whole time. That sure calmed a lot of my fears, but then also made me wonder what I would do with Gaga while I was participating with Junior for 45 minutes. No worries, I was able to leave her in the stroller and wheel her up next to the nets enclosing the area where class took place.

There were two other boys in the class with Junior which made it really nice to have such intimate attention. We started out with stretches that none of the boys felt like doing even while being coerced by their parents. I finally did get Junior to reach his arms up into the air and go down to touch his toes. At this point warm up was over and we were on to a little running. The coach had the boys start at home plate and run to each base and back again to home plate. The first one took off and ran straight to the back wall, not touching a single plate. The next two boys followed and we had to corral them back to try again. It was funny to watch them have no idea what to do! Take two and all of a sudden Junior has a melt down. He runs in between my legs and will not let go or stop crying. This is exactly why I was loving this free trial. After about a minute, that seemed like ten, Junior was calm and we were on to the next drill. We had a few ball handling drills, interspersed with running drills and then on to hitting the balls off the tee. But before I mention this, we had one more incident that almost had us heading for the door. We were rolling hula hoops back and forth and the boys would chase after them (another running drill). One hula hoop slightly brushed up against Junior and it was the end of the world. Same as before he came running to me crying hysterically and would not let go of my legs. I'm sure a little bit of this had to be from embarrassment because like I said he was slightly bumped by this plastic circle. Another minute passed and we were okay again. So onto batting, each boy was showed the proper stance and swinging technique and then left to practice hitting into the net. Junior had excellent form and hit fairly well thanks to Daddy who has been working with him. The coach mentioned that we have a little athlete on our hands! I'm sure he says that to all the parents. Lastly we did what the coach called "home run derby". Each boy took a turn coming up to bat, getting a good hit and then running all the bases for a home run! Overall it was a good class and I can confidently say that I think Junior will do fine and we have already permanently signed him up for the 8-week class. More stories of those to come! Oh and a few pictures of course from yesterday.

Sitting in the "dugout" (The boy to the right of Junior was the coach's son...not another classmate. He was there to help.)

6 Months Old

6 Month Old stats:
28 inches tall
14 lbs. 13 oz.

Baby girl has a name

Baby girl finally has a blog name...drum roll please...

GAGA!!!

Nothing fancy at all about that name, but Junior has called her that since day one. The day she was born we asked him to say her name and it came out "Gaga". He still says Gaga even today 6 months later.

"Boom, boom" was also in the running for her blog name but Junior no longer says that. While Gaga was in utero and Junior accompanied me to most of my doctor appointments, I would tell him we were going to the doctor's office to hear Gaga and he would confirm by questioning "Boom boom?", referring to the sound when the doctor placed the Doppler on my belly. He always referred to her in that way if anyone ever talked about her. It was pretty cute! But alas, "Gaga" is used more frequently around here and will suit her just fine.

My cup overfloweth

The day we returned from our overnight stay for Daddy's birthday Junior was talking more than he ever had before and Baby Girl had the cutest new smile (crinkled up nose and all). It felt like they had grown up over night and I missed it!

At dinner that night while we talked with Junior about what he did while we were gone there was a moment of silence and then..."Love you Momma" came out of Junior's mouth. (This is the first time he has said this unprompted!) Tears welled up in my eyes and I thought to myself...I'm NEVER leaving home again!

Baby girl's new smile...looks like Junior's smile when he was about that age

Except Junior's was a little scary looking (Junior almost 8 months)

Daddy turns the big 3-0!!!

It's raining, it's pouring the OLD man is...AWAKE!!! Happy Birthday, Daddy! I have to give him a hard time seeing as I still have a couple more years to be YOUNG! (Actual birthday June 6th)

Aunt A and Unckie J came to our house early afternoon to relieve us of our children so we could get checked into the hotel room we would stay in that night for Daddy's birthday. Nana and Great One later relieved them of their duties when they arrived back from a week's trip in Barbados a few hours later. We were blessed to have them stay the night and watch the little ones.

After we checked into our hotel we headed out for dinner. It was not anything too fancy since we were already putting down a good chunk of money for the hotel and the couples' massage the next morning. All Daddy wanted was some good fajitas so we made it downtown to the Iron Cactus. Here we are at dinner and a few margaritas later!

Our hotel room when we got back from dinner. They had a card and balloons for Daddy and the maid had already been by for turn down service. The whole experience was amazing. They are really about customer service there.

Us in the hotel room

Breakfast in the room the next morning...Yummy! After this we headed down for our massages and since the spa was a little behind due to unforeseen problems we were discounted 25%. They made sure that we got a late checkout so we wouldn't be rushed and one of the therapists let me us her phone to call home and make sure Baby girl would not be hungry until we made it back. They really will bend over backwards for you there. Of course 25% is nothing compared to my friend's stay that turned out to be free...but something is better than nothing!

The next day back at home to celebrate with the little ones and blow out some candles. It is all that Junior could talk about. He would sing happy birthday all day and then blow out his imaginary candles for us. He couldn't wait until we finally did it!

Again, HAPPY 30th BIRTHDAY, DADDY!!! I hope it was all you asked for! And here's wishing you many, many more wonderful birthdays! We love you! Mommy, Junior and Baby Girl

The way I like it

Two sleeping babes

I left Junior in the living room to check my email when we got home from the store. Halfway through I thought it a little odd to be so quiet and this is what I found. This is the first time he has fallen asleep anywhere besides a bed or car seat.

Junior's fascination this week

For the past few months or longer, Junior has been thrilled to see the garbage truck come blazing through our alley every Friday. But ever since last Saturday when the garbage truck made a day-late visit due to Memorial day being that week, he has talked non-stop about it. It is cute to see him interested in one thing and want to know about it, but it starts to wear on me when the only question that seems to arise lately is "When trash truck coming?" Which leads me to say, "Not until Friday," and then prompts him to say, the ever popular..."WHY?" Of course no answer is ever good enough and that battle lasts 10 minutes. I wondered at that point if I was going to make it 6 more days until the garbage truck graced us with its presence again. Wednesday rolls around and we headed to my grandparents house for the day. As I turned the corner onto their street, overwhelming excitement consumed me as I saw trash bags on the curbs of every house! Could it be that Junior would not have to wait until Friday? Sure enough later that day, the truck came rolling by and Junior had a front row seat for the show. He was already outside coming back from checking the mail with his Great-Grandma. He could barely control himself! Much to his delight, just a few short days later, he got to see the truck again. Not once today, but twice it made its way down our alley! Oh the simple pleasures of a 2-1/2 year old.

The Houstonians pay us a visit

We were delighted to get a phone call from our old college friends letting us know that they would be in town for the weekend and wanted to try and get together. Of course, no matter what we had going on, we were going to make something work so we could see them! We planned on them coming over to our house Saturday morning and stay for a couple of hours. I originally had to work the night before and was preparing myself to be up for over 24 hours when I received a phone call from work that I was to be canceled that night. It sure made for a more pleasant evening and next morning; me being bright eyed instead of dragging my feet through mud. All three boys played well together and the adults were able to somewhat catch up in between time-outs and overtired meltdowns. It sure is nice to see them enjoy each other when we meet up from time to time. P family, thanks for a wonderful visit and we can not wait until next time!
