A Long Weekend

To make a long story short, things changed at Daddy's work that now has him taking 25 days of vacation by the end of the year or he looses them all. In some ways it is great and in other ways it is bad. Had we known about this sooner we could have planned accordingly and taken a really nice vacation. But instead Daddy is taking a few days off here and there and we are taking advantage of everyone of them. Daddy took off this past Monday and Tuesday, which made this past weekend a LONG one!

We started out Saturday morning with a nice trip to our friend's neighborhood pool to swim and relax and then back to their house for yummy paninis and cupcakes to celebrate St. James' feast day. Thanks H family! It's always a pleasure! Later that night we went to a special mass at church and surprisingly Junior and Gaga were somewhat behaved even though it was a LATE mass.

Sunday we went to a nearby park/pond to feed ducks and have a picnic. It was fairly overcast which made for cooler, bearable temps. We then headed straight for my parent's house so they could watch the little ones while Daddy and I went out to see a movie (1st one in I don't know how long) and then dinner. On the way back home stopped at a Nestle Toll House store and bought some amazingly good cookies! Brought a few extra home for Nana, Great One and Junior. Thanks Nana and Great One...we needed that night out!

Monday, we took Junior bowling for the first time. He absolutely loved it for the first 10 frames. Then we started a new game and he was a bit tired by then. We had a free coupon for $10 worth of games. So after the second game of bowling we tried Junior's skills at some of the other games. His favorite was the mini-basketball. Nothing else really took his fancy; especially the skeeball...he could not roll the ball hard enough to get over the first lip. He finally did succeed twice. Below are the pictures from our bowling outing!

Then on Tuesday it was a day of BASEBALL! Junior has his baseball classes on Tuesday morning so Daddy was able to attend this one with him and Mommy was able to take a step back and get some good pictures! There can be up to 6 kids in one class, but this particular one only had Junior and one other boy and this day that boy was on vacation, so the class consisted only of Junior! It was great one-on-one time with Daddy and the coach! He practiced some batting, throwing, catching, sliding and running bases. Below are pictures from class.

To continue our day of baseball we made it out to our annual Rangers game. They were playing the Detroit Tigers. They had won the game the night before so we were hoping for a repeat! Junior was hoping for a home run so he could see the fireworks they shoot off and he reminded us of that periodically throughout the game. Halfway through the game Daddy and Junior headed out to get a strawberry chill to help cool us off from the hot night. While they were gone Elvis Andrus hit the only home run of the night and there went the fireworks Junior had been anxiously awaiting. :( When Daddy and Junior came back he said they saw it on the t.v. and ran back to the field only to see the smoke left over from the fireworks. It reminded me of the first game we took Junior to when Daddy and him missed the only home run of the game to change a dirty diaper. Word to the wise...DO NOT leave your seat when your team is up to bat! A few upsides to the night...we were right next to Jim Knox when he interviewed for t.v. two boys sitting next to us for the upcoming high school All-star game; getting an official Ranger's baseball at the end of the game from the Ranger's dugout; and seeing Nolan Ryan (we were sitting about 10 rows up from him). See below for pictures!
